Baptisms
The Rector would be very pleased to welcome you at St. Alban's for the baptism of your childBaptisms are carried out as part of a Sunday service when the congregation, together with your guests, will enjoy a conventional service at which your child is presented to GOD and given a CHRISTian name. When you meet with the Rector before the event he will explain the service to you. A personalised service sheet will be prepared to lead everybody through the Baptism; this will also be a memento for you of a very special day for your family. Normally you will have the opportunity to choose a hymn; this is arranged as part of your discussions with the Rector. We understand that you will wish to make a record of such an important event with photographs etc and we are happy that you do this; but please remember that church is a place where people come to commune with God. The Baptism service, as with all services, is a spiritually sensitive and moving experience for all those taking part, so we would ask you to make sure your photographer considers the spiritual and emotional needs of everybody present and in particular does not make any movement that will detract from people’s enjoyment of the service. No flash photography is permitted during the service. The Rector will be happy to outline what is and is not appropriate. To help maintain the appropriate atmosphere in church please could you ask parents of young children in your party to bring a favourite silent toy for them to play with? Services have been held in this building for over one hundred and thirty five years and on the same site for over seven centuries, so you will be continuing a very old tradition. If you would like advice about flowers on the Baptismal Font please contact either Gill Friswell 01829 770463 or Sue Orme on 01829 770793. We do hope you enjoy your very special day.
